State police have arrested a man for DWAI for driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 84, causing a head-on crash that injured three on Wednesday in Putnam County.

Christopher S. Franz, 45, of Broomall, Pennsylvania, was arrested for driving while impaired by drugs, following the crash that took place around 8:20 a.m. Jan. 2 at the I-84 Exit 19 off-ramp onto Route 312 (Southeast), said New York State Trooper AJ Hicks.

An investigation found Franz, driving a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, drove the wrong way on the exit ramp, and struck a 2016 Toyota pickup truck driven by  Moises Rios Castro, 46, of Carmel, and his child passenger.

All parties were transported to Danbury Hospital for minor injuries.

Franz was determined to be under the influence of drugs, Hicks said.

Upon release from Danbury Hospital Franz was arraigned before the town of Patterson Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond.

Franz is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 14.
